MP2 - Week 2

   MONDAY  11-14    B-Day:  Peer Revision Using Google Docs

     DO Now - Copy and Read         

Entry Title:  How to Share a Document for Peer Editing

  1. Open the Assignment in Google Classroom
  2. Make sure it is UNSUBMITTED first!
  3. Click the blue SHARE button.
  4. Type the name of your partner and select them.
  5. Click SEND.
  6. Your partner will have to wait for an email with a link inviting them to edit your work.
  7. Be patient, if can take up to five minutes.

  • I can share an assignment with a partner for peer editing.
  • I can edit an essay using Google Docs to make suggestions and comments.

     Work Time                
  1. Share your essay with three different peers.
  2. Peer edit three essays from three different classmates.
  3. Once your essay is peer edited by three classmates, open your essay and make the revisions they suggested if you agree with them.

    • Mr. DeGrandis will be checking to see that you have completed three essays.

    • Read your essay back to yourself. ...
    • Read your essay backward. ...
    • Figure out the types of errors you typically make, and proofread for one error at a time. ...
    • Don't forget to proofread your changes.

      1. Open FlashCardMachine and play one of the games there based on Vocabulary List II.
      2. Not done with your cards?  Use this time to work on them!

      • Open your Literary Elements Note Catcher.  
      • Grab your novel and open to page 123!

           Work Time       
      • As we read, your teacher will stop occasionally to point out various literary elements.
      • You are to add at least two new literary elements to your note catcher by the end of the period.
      • Remember:  You will be required to add literary elements to your final project.
      ________________________________________

           Assessment / Homework       
        • Two new literary elements and examples from the novel in your note catcher!
        • Vocabulary Flash Cards due tomorrow!




           THURSDAY    11-17    A-Day:  Read Novel

        • Please check your Gmail!
        • Grab your Chromebook.

             DO Now - Submit Your Vocabulary Flash Cards         

        1. Open FlashCardMachine.
        2. Click on Vocabulary List II
        3. Click the SHARING tab.
        4. Select ENABLE
        5. Click SAVE SET DETAILS
        6. A blue link will appear.
        7. Copy and paste that link into Assignment 13.0 in Google Classroom!

           FRIDAY    11-18    B-Day:  DIRT Day        





        DIRT Day Expectations

        1. Do the following BEFORE the bell rings…
          1. Open your DIRT Day Assignment in Google Classroom.
          2. Be in your seat reading.
        2. Focus on your reading the entire period.
        3. Do not sub-vocalize during DIRT.
        4. Complete 10 thoughts using the Active Reading Model by the end of the period. Do more for extra credit.




        If You Finish a Book…
        In an email to Mr. DeGrandis, write a review about your book in 3-paragraph essay format.
        Guidelines for the Essay:
        • ¶ 1 - title, author and genre of the novel and your opinion of the book (controlling idea).
        • ¶ 2 - short summary of the book and include at least two text-based examples from the book
                 that support your controlling idea in ¶
        • ¶ 3 - explain why you would or would not recommend this book to a friend and where they might be able to find it or purchase it.

        If You Forgot Your Book…
        • Choose a book from the class library or Mr. DeGrandis will give you one.
        • Be sure to bring your book next week.

        If You Want to Switch Books…
        In an email to Mr. DeGrandis, write an Abandon Book Essay.
        Guidelines:


        • ¶ 1 – title, author and genre of the novel you are abandoning and
                  three reasons you don’t like the book (controlling idea).
        • ¶ 2 through 4 - Develop each reason using text-based details from the book.
        • ¶ 5 - Offer your suggestions for other novels you have read that another student might enjoy.
