4.  exacerbate v. (exacerbates, exacerbating, exacerbated, exacerbating) - to make something bad even worse
    The singer's terrible voice was exacerbated by the awful pianist who didn't know how to accompany her.

      5.  sagacious adj. (sagaciously) - good judgement; shrewd
      Samuel Westing Jr. III had always been a sagacious business man known for his shrewd negotiating style.

      6.  dissolution n. (dissolutions) - the disintegration or decomposition of something
      The Alka-seltzer tablet's dissolution was instant once it fell into the glass of water and virtually disappeared.

      7.  contagion n. (contagious) - the spreading of a disease or idea from one person to another through close contact
      Once the idea of storming the Bastille took hold, it spread like a contagion among the people.

      8.  pestilence n. (pestilences) - a fatal epidemic disease, especially the bubonic plague
      The Ebola virus is a horrific pestilence that was just as easily spread as the bubonic plague.

           Mini-Lesson:  What is Evaluating Evidence?        
         
      • When you are writing an essay, it's really important to be sure that your evidence is accurate, reliable (credible sources) and supports the topic sentence.
      • How do you evaluate evidence?
        • Identify the claim (topic sentence)
        • Identify the evidence
        • See if the evidence supports your claim

           Work Time - Who is Ha Anchor Chart              
      • Using your Who is Ha? Graphic Organizer in Google Classroom Assignment 22.0 and the novel, Inside Out and Back Again, find nine pieces of evidence that are accurate, reliable and support your topic sentence.  Things like... characteristics of Ha's personality, values, beliefs or physical appearance.
      • Actively Read up to page 37 in the novel.  Fill in evidence about Ha as you go!
      • Share your evidence with one or two other students and fill in your chart with any evidence they found that is different from yours.
      • Check their evidence to be sure it is solid!
