    • Setting: Calpurnia's Church
    • Characters: Jem, Scout, Cal, Rev Sykes and various church ladies
    • Focus Question:  How are the children treated at Cal's church by the congregation?

      • What is Hymn Lining? “Lining out” is the practice of singing or stating the upcoming lines of a hymn for the congregation by a song leader or preacher. Typically, the words are stated quickly, and then sung in a drawn-out, slowly rhythmic moan.

        • Heads Together:  With an adjacent partner, identify an example of the cultural divide between the white and black communities in Maycomb.  Cite one quote from the novel and be prepared to share it with the class for a raffle ticket.
