Cross the Line Game

Getting to know your classmates and your teachers is an important aspect of a healthy classroom environment.  This game will help us all get to know each other a bit better and start building a stronger rapport with each other.

Ground Rules - Creating a Safe Space

1. You do not have to participate.  Playing this game is totally optional. This game may bring up strong feelings in some people and no one should feel uncomfortable.
   
   
2. The game is played in total silence so people have space to process what they are experiencing.
   
   
3. Laughing or mocking anyone will not be tolerated.

How to Play

I will call out specific categories/labels/descriptions, and ask that all of those to whom this applies, cross the line.

For example, I might request that anyone with glasses please cross the line. If this describes you and you feel comfortable acknowledging it, you would cross the line and turn and face the other people who did not cross the line.

Once you have crossed the line, look around to see who else has crossed the line.

Get in touch with your feelings and think about those people who did and did not cross the line.

After a few seconds, reset and explore another a new question. Remember, there is no pressure to cross the line if you don’t feel comfortable doing so. You will need to make that decision. 

At the conclusion of the activity, we will discuss what we felt and what we learned.

Bring in your favorite book to read for MONDAY.  If you don't have one, Mr. DeGrandis will give you a book to read from the class library.  Let's hope you like it!
