  • Who was involved?
  • What happened?
  • When did it happen?
  • Where did it happen?
  • Why did it happen?
  • How did it happen?

        LEARNING TARGETS

1. I can define what a narrative essay is through a presentation by my teacher.

2.  I can analyze sample narrative essays to determine if they are good or bad.

        MINI-LESSON

1.  Do you recall writing your Proud Moment Essay?  That was a narrative essay!

1.  Check out this Google Slide lesson on Narrative Essays.

2.  Let's check out a couple sample narrative essays.

        WORK TIME

1.  You will receive a colored popsicle stick from your teacher.

2.  You will then get into groups determined by the color of your stick.

3.  Each group will receive a packet of sample narrative essays.  Click here for a digital copy.

4.  Please do not write on the paper copies.  Thanks!

5.  Read each sample essay and give each one a grade out of 100% after discussing it with your team members.

6.  One person should be the group reporter.

7.  As a group, give each essay a grade out of 100%.

8.  As a group, explain why you gave the essay the grade you did.

9.  Help the group reporter write a summary of your grade explanation.  Use the commentary on the sample essays as a guide.  Use the Sample Essay Grade Report and Commentary Activity to structure your report.

10.  Group reporter shares their report with the class.

Consider the following...

1.  Does it cover the five W's?

2. Does it stay focused on one topic?

3.  Does it have an intro, beginning, middle, end, and conclusion?

4.  Is it written well?  Good grammar, spelling, etc...

5.  Is it easy to understand and is it organized well?

          ASSESSMENT

Each group will receive a grade based on how quickly and efficiently they complete their report for the class.

Go to Google Classroom and open the Google Form called Sample Essay Grade Report and Commentary Activity.
