MP 1 - Week 10 - 2021

     MONDAY    11-8-21     AC Day:  1975 Year of the Cat

2.  Be sure you know your topic for your Genius Project.  You will need it to complete tomorrow's assignment.

3.  Gradebook closes today at 11:59 PM.  

4.  No school Thursday in recognition of Veteran's Day.

     Being an ardent Bills fan, Mark painted his face half red and half blue to show his love for the team.

4.  exacerbate v. (exacerbates, exacerbating, exacerbated, exacerbating) - to make something bad even worse
    The singer's terrible voice was exacerbated by the awful pianist who didn't know how to accompany her.

    2.  When is Tet, and what two events are celebrated on Tet?
      3.  How does Ha's family celebrate Tet?
        4.  How might this special day affect the other days?
          5.  What does the narrator, Ha, do that might bring bad luck to the family?

          6.  Ha says, "No one would believe me, but at times I would prefer wartime in Saigon over peacetime in Alabama."

          7.  Based on the gallery walk, and class discussions so far, what do you think might have happened to a little girl to make her say she preferred war at home (Saigon) to peace in Alabama (The United States)?

          Getting the Gist
          Getting your initial reaction to what the text is mostly about. You will do this now as you hear the first poem of the novel, 1975: The Year of the Cat read aloud. 

          Read Aloud: Follow the text with your eyes as you listen to the poem being read.


          Turn and Talk: What is your initial sense of what the poem is mostly about?

          Read up to page 37 as a class.  Highlight literary elements as you go using Kami.

          A blog is a frequently updated, online, personal journal or diary. For our purposes, we’ll say that a blog is your own website that you are going to update on an ongoing basis with blog posts.

          Your blog title should communicate the purpose of your blog in a fun or interesting way!



                  WORK TIME          

          Open Assignment 25.0 in Google Classroom.

          You should create your Home, About, and Update Pages by the end of the week.



                    ASSESSMENT          

          Turn in Assignment 25.0 with the correct link to your live site, not your dashboard.  Due this Sunday.

          Once the idea of storming the Bastille took hold, it spread like a contagion among the people.

          The Ebola virus is a horrific pestilence that was just as easily spread like the bubonic plague.



                  WORK TIME          


          Work on your blog.  Be sure to have at least two people look it over for ease and clarity of navigation and grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.
