MP2 - Week 8 - 2023

 MONDAY     1-9-23      A-Day: Finish IO&BA and Turn in Lit. Elements Note-catcher

1. Check your Gmail twice a day - before school and after school.

2.  Include your Period and Assignment number in your emails to Mr. D.

3.  Are you working on your Genius Project?  Schedule time this week to work on it or meet with your mentor.

4.  Get out your novel and note-catcher for class, then start your Do Now!


        DO NOW                     

5.  arbitrate v. (-d, -ing, -s) to act between parties to resolve their differences  

If your two best friends are fighting over the last piece of gum in the pack, you might arbitrate by telling them to split it. 


6.  nauseate  v. (-d, -ing, -s, nausea, nauseous) to feel sick to the point of almost vomiting

The first few weeks of her pregnancy were difficult because Katy woke up every morning feeling nauseated and dizzy.

 TUESDAY    1-10-23      D-Day: Final Project, Create Your Refugee Character and Extra Credit: Where is Ha?

The one-act play was so melancholy that I felt depressed even after I left the theater! 


8.  aloof adj. (aloofly) not friendly or forthcoming; cool and distant.

After meeting Jenine for the third time, Michael realized she wasn't shy, just aloof because she hardly spoke and acted bored every time they went out.

IO&BA Final Project
Create a narrative poem 
(a poem that tells a story) about a unique refugee character you create in the same writing style as Thanhha Lai's narrative poem, Inside Out & Back Again.

        WORK TIME          

The First Step...Create Your Refugee Character!
How to create an interesting refugee character.
  1. Complete Assignment 38.0 in Google Classroom.  This will help get you to create your character.

  2. Model Student Tip:  Become your character for a day!  You should like your character.  Become your character for a day and see what it feels like to be that person!  This is not necessary to complete the assignment.


Once you have created your character, you can start writing your poems using Assignment 39.0.

These assignments are due Jan 10th and January 18th respectively.

Until Jem and Dill excluded me from their plans, she was only another lady in the neighborhood, but a relatively benign presence.

We were accustomed to prompt, if not always cheerfully acquiescing to Atticus's instructions, but from the way he stood, Jem was not thinking of budging.

Weekend:  Complete two more poems.


Classwork Grade

You will receive a classwork grade worth 20 points for each day we work on the project (up to 80 points).  Points will be deducted each day whenever you must be redirected to complete your work.
